American Educational Research Association (AERA)

The American Educational Research Association (AERA), a national research society, strives to advance knowledge about education, to encourage scholarly inquiry related to education policy, and to promote the use of research to improve education and serve the public good. Topics addressed by the site include: early childhood education, teacher education, achievement gap, standards and testing, class size and more.

Brookings Institution Center on Children and Families

Presents policy research focused on the well-being of America's children and their parents, particularly those in less advantaged families. The Center is working to develop an understanding of the reasons for poverty or low income, especially among working families and to create policies which could improve the prospects and the life chances of these families and children. The Center looks at education policy regarding early childhood education and education reform.

CATO Institute

Child and Family Policy Center

The Child and Family Policy site offers research on policy issues relevant to children and their families. The main focus of the research is on developing a more asset based and comprehensive means to promote the success of children and to examine the effects of education policy. Many of the center's publication cover the issues of early childhood education and school readiness.

Child Trends Data Bank

The major areas covered are: education and skills, learning assessments, attendance and attainment, behaviors that affect learning, education related assets, and early childhood education.

ChildStats
The Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics (Forum) is a collection of 20 federal government agencies involved in research and activities related to children and families in the areas of: early childhood care, high school graduation rates, math and reading achievement. The Forum produces an annual report detailing statistics related to a number of indicators of well-being.

This site provides information for community leaders and those interested in youth policy regarding education reform, primary school reform, School-community connections, out-of-school time, youth policy planning

Future of Children

The Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and the Brookings Institution produce this journal. Two issues are published each year and address the following issues: school readiness, children and computer technology, when school is out, financing schools, special education for students with disabilities, school-linked services, long-term outcomes of early childhood education programs. All journal issues are archived and available online.

The Harvard Family Research Project

The goal of the Harvard Family Research Project is to increase the educational and social success of children by focusing on their families and communities. The main goal is to increase participation in after school activities and improve on environmental influences in the family and community. Research covers: participation in out-of-school time programs, professional development for teachers and early education.

Heritage Foundation

This site covers education policy issues ranging from early childhood education to primary education including: No Child Left Behind, charter schools, Head Start, sex education, school choice, education finance, and education reform.

The Institute for Child and Family Policy

Written by faculty, researches, and students at Columbia University who are participating in policy-related work, the Institute for Child and Family Policy is a resource for activities and information on a variety of policy-relevant topics including early education.

Joint Center for Poverty Research

This site offers research findings and policy information related to the causes of poverty, and the consequences for children and families. A variety of education, income, family, and social topics are covered, as they relate to poverty and outcomes for children. Topics include: education and disadvantaged youth, effects of Head Start, Early Intervention, income and children's education

NCCP

NCCP provides information for policymakers regarding issues such as Head Start, child care, and federal assistance programs, as they relate to low-income children and families. Demographics and other data are easily accessed. Visitors to the site may also search by state, by policy, or may view the publications index.

National Association for the Education of Young Children

NAEYC focuses on the quality of educational and developmental services for all children from birth through age 8. This site has a Public Policy section that provides links to recent research and reports helpful for policy and advocacy on the following topics: preschool, pre-K, Head Start, early childhood literacy, school readiness and primary education.

National Governors Association

NGA's Center for Best Practices covers: school readiness, school health, No Child Left Behind, higher education, teacher quality, and education reform.

National Institute for Early Education Research, Rutgers University

NIEER publishes Preschool Policy Matters, a set of research briefs, which address early childhood education issues such as class size, preschool attendance, Head Start teachers, and outcomes and assessment.  The site also presents fact sheets on some of these issues and covers special education, culturally responsive education, and issues faced by English Language Learners.

Public Agenda

Public Agenda seeks to increase public engagement through unbiased public opinion research. Research studies are presented on the site and may be searched by topic. The political context of different issues is discussed. Topics covered include: public schools, math and science, out-of-school time, state and local education reports and higher education.

RAND Child Policy Project

RAND Child Policy covers research on children's issues from prenatal to age 18. Users may browse publications by topic. Abstracts, research briefs, and some full-text documents are provided. Topics covered include: school readiness, early childhood intervention, universal preschool, school reform, primary education and urban schools.

Society for Research in Child Development-Social Policy Reports

SRCD presents archived online issues of Social Policy Reports that address education policy. Issues covered pertain to:  preschool assessment, interactive media, early intervention, kindergarten. Other issues addressed also include: emotional development and school readiness and many more.

Urban Institute

The Urban Institute covers Head Start, primary education, immigration and No Child Left Behind Act, education spending, and standards-based reform and others policies.
